WAVELL HOUSE NOTES Since the last edition of The Victorian appeared, the House has passed through the dark days of the winter term with surprisingly little illness and the younger boys are now enjoying the greater freedom for outdoor activities that the better weather and brighter evenings of the summer term provides. Mr Finlay has provided an arsenal of wooden rifles and machine-guns which are in great demand for battles in Wavell wood, whose rough ground provides an ideal setting for manoeuvres and ambushes. The season of dam construction has also arrived with the sun and on fine evenings groups of budding engineers can be seen blocking the burn with the sole intent of releasing a brown muddy flood when the water has risen to a sufficient height. Tadpoles, newts, frogs, and water tigers are eagerly sought and kept in tins in the most inappropriate places. It is hoped to sublimate some of this surplus energy in the annual walk which covers about twelve miles
