RUGBY 1st XV As usual we played very few games in the Easter term. This year was worse than previous years because we managed only one game, against the Old Boys. This was played on Saturday, 13th March, and resulted in a win for the School by 13 points to nil. Our first win for a number of years. There were a few familiar faces missing from the Old Eioys' team, but despite this the game was very closely contested from start to finish. 1st XV: W. Crichton; T. Nicol, I. Burgess, B. Murton (captain), Todd; T. Goldie, Robinson; S. Bruce (S/L), M. Stear; R. Myles, J. Wrenn, J. McMillan; J. Brown, R. Murdoch, J. Shannon. We again entered a team for the Stirling Sevens at Bridgehaugh Park. This year we did much better than in previous years, reaching the final before we were beaten by a much bigger and faster side from Falkirk High School. On our way to the final we defeated Stirling High School 8-0, and Alloa Academy by 10-0. I think I should say that we had played two games before reaching the final, while Falkirk had only played one, against Grangemouth High School. This probably had some effect on our performance in the final in which we went down 22-0. Sevens team: T. Nicol, B. Murton (captain); T. Goldie, D. Todd ; S. Bruce; M. Stear; J. Wrenn.
3rd XV The 3rd XV had a very successful season this year losing only two of their nine games. The fast running three quarters at last measured up to their reputation and at least can take some of the credit for the high scores. Mr Reid has again done a fine job of instilling the basic skills into these enthusiastic players who should be able to fill the gaps left in the 1st XV by the leavers. The 3rd Year XV only played one game suring the Easter term. This was against Queen Anne School, Dunfermline, which we narrowly lost. We must thank Jim Ritchie for helping Mr Reid out whenever he had time.
